We moved into Ronald McDonald House in less than a week after our arrival, and before the week was over, we had to politely ask people to stop sending care packages. It didn’t really stop. The amount of boxes of gifts, snacks, in addition to the cards and notes of encouragement was difficult to quantify.

February 11, 2019 Update:

We continue to be overwhelmed (in a good way) by the kindness, generosity of people towards us. So once again, we want to say “Thank you!” Please know that the greatest gift that you can give us is prayer. God has been and continues to be a refuge in our day of trouble.

This goes without saying, but please continue to pray that Asher would be healed.

Pray for the hearts of our children. Pray that they would see their parents clinging to Jesus as our only hope in life and death.

For Leah and I, there are a lot of things on our minds right now.
Asher’s symptoms have gotten a little worse, mostly likely due to inflammation associated with radiation treatment. This is expected, but pray that the symptoms would subside.

Tomorrow marks three weeks since we arrived in Memphis. There are ways in which we feel settled, and others we do not. The volatility in Asher’s schedule (e.g. 2 appointments tomorrow, 5 appointments Wednesday), can contribute to some of the lack of routine. Pray for Leah as she works each week with the St. Jude scheduling team (yes they have one of those, and they are awesome), to balance out Asher’s schedule. Pray for us as we try to carve out some routine for Annelise in the midst of the chaos while also finding space for me to work. Thank you to some of our family who have visited us regularly to help us do just that.

Back home in Gastonia, there is a flu strain going around that was not the strain in this season’s vaccine. We have family and friends who will be visiting over the course of the next few weeks, so please pray that visitors would be healthy.

Pray that we would fight for joy. Pray that we would continue to remember that we serve “the Lord, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.“

Thanks again for standing with us.
