Try and Try again
Caring Bridge Update May 2, 2019
Today we will attempt to step Asher’s steroid dose down below 5 MG for the first time since late March. We’re a little on edge, because the last time we did that, he began to vomit frequently, and had to go to the hospital for an overnight stay. Please pray that we can step down to the recommended 2 MG or less dose over the next couple of weeks.
The army of doctors and surgeons have all agreed that it would not be a good time to drain the cyst, due to the risks of surgery with his present symptoms. We are grateful for the consensus, and yet it’s hard for us, because we know that the cyst has created some of the symptoms he is presently experiencing. Pray for us as we have to continue to accept decisions like these, trusting God, and the kind medical professionals He has placed in our lives.
We have had an answer to prayers in that we’ve seen positive changes in Asher’s fatigue level. He still needs a couple of naps during the day, but his rest at night has gotten better, and it’s improved his overall rhythm to the point where he’s not constantly wanting to sleep, and can enjoy the daytime a little more. We are thankful to God for those answered prayers!
As things have plateaued a bit over the last couple of weeks, pray that we can make the best use of the time. Pray for Leah as she tries to plan activities and trips that are accessible to Asher to fill his days.
Finally, I want you to know that I’m praying for you all as well, and not just in my gratitude. We all have a keen awareness that there is nothing we can do. I pray that as each of you joins us in praying in the midst of sheer helplessness, that God draws you closer to Himself. I pray that He gives you a glimpse of how He displays power through weakness in dark places; that He would be gracious enough to let you see Himself.
