Things Happen

No matter where you are and what you’re going through, regular life problems can still find you: car problems, stomach bugs, and the like. Leah’s post from February 22 was a snapshot of the normal and the abnormal of life coexisting:

I don’t know what words to use to communicate the depth of our gratitude to all of you for your prayers, love, support, Goldfish and Slim Jim’s, and lavish generosity, but thank you. Truly, we are so grateful.

David is better at wrapping things up and giving you all the big picture of the how’s and what’s in our lives right now, and if you’ve ever gotten a gift from me, you know wrapping is not my thing—I’m the moment-to-moment one.

So here are some of the little things—some ‘moments’ from this week:

  • President’s Day! The MS cousins came up with Nana and we went to the Memphis Zoo. The kids were mesmerized at having arrived at the Panda enclosure at the precise moment that one of the pandas was pooping while it slept. Memories…
  • Tuesday, Asher was very sick (vomiting). Fortunately, it was not from the radiation. Unfortunately, it was a stomach virus that he shared with Annelise and me. Sharing isn’t caring when it has to do with puking.
  • Wednesdays are his heavy days when he usually has 4 to 5 appointments. Annelise went to stay with Nana for a few days. Yay! For girl time!
  • Yesterday, David took him to his appointments while the I was down with the stomach bug. Between appointments, Asher took a little cooking class, which he LOVED. Chicken Alfredo!
  • Today, after his appointments, we’re heading down to MS and to hang out with ALL the cousins! The Kendricks are coming from NC and we couldn’t be more excited.

Radiation is going well. Asher calls it “riding the lightning,” and after today, he’ll have had 13 of his 30 treatments.

God has been so merciful to us in allowing Asher to not have any adverse side effects to the treatment, and He’s been so gracious in giving us joyful moments. God is hearing our prayers. Here’s how you can pray for us:

  • Pray that Asher and Annelise would know, love, and seek God.
  • Pray that David and I would have wisdom in the big and small decisions
  • Pray that our hearts would continue to be awed and grateful at God’s enormous blessings on our lives.
  • Pray that sickness would stay away
  • Pray that we would use the time we have wisely and that God would be immensely glorified in it.

Guacamole Recipe

A few months back, my wife and I had the pleasure of visiting a Mexican restaurant in Charlotte called Cantina 1511. One of the highlights was their guacamole, which is made fresh at your table. Strangely enough, when visiting the... Continue →
