Everybody Has a Plan…
From where we stood, the big things were going according to plan: Asher has radiation treatment. We go home and make the biggest memories possible. We come back and start a clinical trial. That’s what we were told to expect, so that was the plan, and we had no reason to think otherwise.
From February 28, 2019:
We are very thankful that the radiation has not made Asher sick thus far. We are also thankful that none of his other symptoms have worsened. We’ve had a few bugs go through our family in the last week, so you can pray that no one else gets sick. Please pray for Leah and I as we make preparations over the next few weeks as to how we are going to make the most of the time.
Above all, please pray that God would be glorified.
Thank you so much for standing with us.
From March 7, 2019:
Thank you for the cards, letters, and gifts you all have been sending. The words of encouragement we read are a joy to us.
As we finish the last two weeks of Asher’s radiation treatment, all of us are more than ready to come home. Both of our kids have very recently expressed the desire that things would go back to the way they used to be. And I think we all feel spent in different ways. After six weeks of not sleeping in your own bed, and living in a hotel-like place where you all share one room, you can feel… done. The weather hasn’t really helped. It’s been mostly raining, and when it’s not raining, it’s been mostly very cold, so cabin fever is real for us frequently.
Here are some ways you can pray for us:
Pray that the time at home would be good for our family. For all the reasons I just mentioned, we really want to be there. I’m praying that it will be a little oasis in the midst what will be a lot of travel.
Continue to pray for Leah and I as we plan out how we’re going to spend the time off. Pray that we would have discernment for the well-being for our kids in what we plan to do. Pray that we would have the best quality time as a family, regardless of where we are.
Continue to pray for our hearts, especially the kid’s hearts. I desire for them to see clearly the steadfast love and faithfulness of God, and to see their parents clinging firmly to Him as an anchor and a refuge, and that they would be encouraged by it.
Pray that I can continue to be a faithful employee. My employer has been graciously flexible with me, and I am incredibly grateful. Pray that I would have focus when I need it, and that God would grant me success in completing tasks.
Pray for the relationships we’ve formed while here, that they would be honoring to God. Any of you who know my social butterfly of a wife aren’t in the least bit surprised to hear that there are over five families here that we’ve formed some kind of relationship with. And I desire that we can hold high the hope we have like a light in a dark place.
Pray for one of Asher’s neuro-oncologists, Dr. Haworth, who needed to take a leave of absence due to some serious medical problems of her own. Pray that she would be healed.
Continue to pray that God would heal our son. And pray that Jesus would return to make all of this brokenness go away. Walk the halls of St. Jude’s for any length of time, and your heart will break, and you will very clearly see that the world is unquestionably broken, and that these things should not be.
Thanks for standing with us, and praying with us.
