Caring Bridge - October 24, 2019

Thanks so much for praying and caring for us. Last week’s surgery went well. We’re thankful that he can close his left eye now, freeing us from the worry of it getting infected, or scratched easily. We’re still not quite sure about the Botox injection. There haven’t been any problems, but there hasn’t been any change, so we’re left wondering what to expect at this point. It’s not something we’re presently worried about.

His other appointments were also successful. He was fitted for a new AFO which we will be receiving soon.

Unfortunately, we did confirm that he’s almost completely deaf in his right ear now. However, they ordered him some hearing aids, so that will definitely help.

Please continue to pray for him in every way; his body, mind, and soul. He’s had some emotional days lately, lamenting not being able to play like he wants to, and simply not being understood well due to his speech.

Pray for Leah and I as we try our best to parent Asher and Annelise. Pray that we would take confidence in God leading and sustaining us.

Pray that we would continue to enjoy the good days for as long as they last.

Yesterday we learned that Kingston, one of the boys I mentioned a few weeks ago, passed away earlier in the morning. To say we’re devastated and broken-hearted doesn’t really describe how we feel about this news. Please pray for his family as they grieve, and walk through difficult things over the coming days, weeks, and months. Some of their hardest days are still in front of them. Pray, as Psalm 34:18 says, that the Lord would be near to the brokenhearted and save the crushed in spirit.

Little Kingston Richmond, just four years old, was the first fellow DIPG patient we had met at St. Jude to succumb to the disease. After so many small victories that had increased Asher’s quality of life since July, Kingston’s passing was both heartbreaking, and a sobering reminder that the estimated time given to Asher was running out. It almost made it feel like time was the enemy.
